Brighten Your Smile This Summer with Cosmetic Dentistry

Brighten Your Smile This Summer with Cosmetic Dentistry

For many of us, summer is a time for vacations, social events, and generally having more fun than the rest of the year. A smile that’s dingy or marred by partially broken

teeth or other issues, however, makes it less easy to just relax and have a good time. At the same time, summer may also mean a break from school – whether we’re students or teachers – which makes it an especially good time to start investing in your appearance.

Whatever you want to do to boost your smile this summer, Dr. Niloo Tavakol and our entire team of outstanding dentists and oral health professionals are here to help you achieve the bright and beautiful smile of your dreams.

No two sets of teeth are exactly alike so there are many approaches – or combination of approaches – to crafting an attractive and healthy smile. These include:

  • Zoom Teeth Whitening– Countless products are on the market claiming to whiten teeth. None, however, boasts the same combination of powerful treatments as the Zoom teeth whitening system. It employs a special gel containing a specialized form of hydrogen peroxide which it activates with high-intensity light from an LED lamp. Studies suggest that, once treatments are completed, the average patient’s teeth may lighten by as many as eight shades.
  • Lumineers – Sometimes cosmetic problems are more than superficial and go to the structure of the tooth. Lumineers are the leading type of dental veneers that cover damaged or permanently discolored teeth with extremely thin porcelain coverings. Adding veneers can help to reshape a smile and can typically be performed in two relatively brief sessions with no discomfort and therefore no need for an anesthetic.
  • Porcelain Crowns. While crowns are often used as the final, prosthetic portion of both root-canal procedures and dental implants, they can also be placed over damaged, discolored, but otherwise healthy teeth for the most flattering smile possible. First, a mold is made of the patient’s natural teeth and then the tooth is cleaned and shaped to create room for the crown. As with implants and root canals, at first, a temporary crown is made which is followed by a permanent crown which is essentially the same as a natural tooth.
  • Porcelain Fixed Bridges. When even one tooth is lost it’s important to replace it as soon as practical. If more teeth are lost, the importance increases. Traditional bridgework is essentially a permanent denture. Today’s prosthetics can also be supported by dental implants, which greatly lower the risk of bone loss. If you are missing one or more teeth, ask one of our superb Northridge Dental Works oral health experts about the best options in your case.
  • Composite Dentistry. On a strictly cosmetic level, there’s little doubt that the modern type of tooth-colored composite fillings look better and more natural than the long-in-use silver amalgams a great many of us have. For new fillings, a composite may be a superior choice not only because of its appearance but also because, unlike amalgams, they do not contain mercury. While amalgam fillings are generally considered safe, composites may provide greater protection and may be less problematic healthwise – including for prospective mothers who may worry about possible impacts on their offspring. They may also be a superior choice in terms of the environment. If you are dealing with a new cavity or have older amalgam fillings you’re concerned about, please bring it up with your Northridge Dental Works dentist.
